The 2020 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Earns a Pure Power Award

July 29th, 2020 by

The New England Motor Press Association (NEMPA) recently held its annual Ragtop Awards and the 2020 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye was deemed the winner of its Pure Power Award. Thanks to its 797 horsepower, it’s not hard to imagine how the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye earned the honor.

“The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye easily earned the NEMPA Pure Power Award, with nearly 800 horsepower on tap, quarter-mile times just over 10 seconds and a top speed over 200 miles per hour, this is one unique ride. In a world of powerful four-cylinder engines, there is still no substitute for cubic inches and torque. To steal the title from Ray Bradbury, ‘Something Wicked This Way Comes’ describes the 6.2-liters of supercharged performance of the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye and why it deserved the title of NEMPA Pure Power,” said John Paul, NEMPA President.

The 2020 Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye was designed and engineered for domination on the streets and on the track, as its extensive power appeals to a broad audience of both muscle car and race enthusiasts. What’s at the heart of the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye — the 6.2-liter HEMI high-output V8 engine — was inherited from the Challenger SRT Demon. With 797 horsepower and 707 lb-ft of torque, this HEMI engine boisterously makes itself known and commands respect. The 6.2-liter HEMI engine is paired with a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission.

2020 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Stats

  • Top speed of 203 mph
  • Acceleration from 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds
  • Elapsed quarter-mile time of 10.8 seconds at 131 mph

Dodge is taking the Pure Power Award to heart and adding even more performance Dodge vehicles for 2020. The automaker just unveiled its Challenger SRT Super Stock, the latest Dodge drag-racing monster. “Demon-possesed” doesn’t even cut it when it comes to the Challenger SRT Super Stock and its 807 horsepower. Throughout all its trims the Dodge Challenger model remains a true GT car — its heritage design, combined with its class-exclusive all-wheel-drive capability, and a range from V6 efficiency to supercharged V8 engines.

NEMPA was founded in 1987 as a way to coordinate media coverage of the automotive industry in Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. Members are responsible for evaluating a wide variety of vehicles from numerous manufacturers. Journalists tested said vehicles throughout New England in the lead up to the association’s official day of testing and scoring. NEMPA’s testing event took place in February (2020) at the group’s headquarters in Middleborough, Massachusetts and the results were subsequently tallied.
