The 2021 Ram 1500 has earned a 2021 Top Safety Pick Rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Last year, the Ram 1500 performed extremely well under strict crash tests provided by the IIHS, and this time around, the same Ram 1500 truck met and exceeded expectations once more, which is a strong testament to the strength and reliability of Ram Trucks. Two of the truck’s features that enabled it to win its 2021 Top Safety Rating Award was its Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking, in addition to its adaptive LED projector headlights that have high-beam assist. The rating applies to all Ram 1500 Crew Cab models that are equipped with the Advanced Safety Group which is an option that is currently offered on the Ram 1500 Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited models, a highly recommended option for prospective buyers.

For individuals that may not be familiar with IIHS requirements, one of the most important criteria a vehicle needs to have is a type of Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking System that enables it to detect pedestrians and arrive at a full stop to eliminate the possibility of impact, and according to the IIHS, Ram’s pedestrian deduction system received an advanced rating which is a major milestone for the Ram brand.

2021 Ram 1500 Safety Features

Ram 1500 trucks are known for their great interior quality and performance, but safety features are now becoming a well-integrated part of the truck manufacturing process and Ram is investing their resources in safety technology and features that will give drivers an extra layer of confidence in Ram truck products. One of the main reasons truck buyers decide to purchase or lease a Ram truck is because of its robust appearance and capable towing capacity, but high-tech safety features are making their way on the buying lists of prospective buyers.

Here is a list of some of the safety features that can be found on the 2021 Ram 1500:

  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC) & Hill Descent Control (HDC): prevents side falls and stability failure, it offers balance control for maneuvers that need to be made in emergency situations. Hill Descent Control stabilizes the brake and acts as a security measure for driving down steep hills.
  • Side Impact Door Beams: reinforced door braces that are designed to offer extra protection to the occupants in the vehicle and act as impact absorbers.
  • Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM): sensors that alert the driver of when a car is in or behind the blind spot of the truck.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go: controls speed and is managed by a button on the steering wheel, keeps a pre-set fixed distance from other cars, and can stop automatically when getting too close to the vehicle in front.
  • Forward Collision Warning (FCW): alerts the driver that a potential collision is imminent and prevents forward collisions by locking the brakes just in time
  • Traction Control System (TCS) & Tire Pressure Monitoring System: limits the torque to the wheels that prevent the vehicle from slipping and keeps stability when going over obstacles. The tire pressure monitoring system allows the driver to track the real-time air pressure of all four tires.
  • Emergency Braking System: an automatic braking feature that is applied when an obstacle is detected on the road; works in conjunction with Forward Collison Warning.
  • Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist:  Detects lane drift when the turn signal is not used and alerts the driver

Crash Test Ratings Explained

The IIHS tests are evaluated based on two criteria: crashworthiness (how well a vehicle protects occupants in a crash) and crash avoidance and mitigation (technology that can prevent a crash or lessen its severity). To learn more in-depth how crash tests are conducted by the IIHS and their rating criteria, visiting the IIHS Official Testing Page can offer prospective buyers an inside look at how a Ram truck earned its second consecutive year as a 2021 Top Safety Pick. According to Ram, the 2021 Ram 1500 did very well on all IIHS crashworthiness tests and got the highest possible ratings which are extremely difficult to do due to very strict requirements. For a comprehensive evaluation of any vehicle, the IIHS examines how a vehicle will react in three different types of front-end crashes, side and rear impacts, as well as roll-over crashes.

Ram’s Earned Reputation

Ram sets the benchmark for quality and high-performing pickup trucks and with the new 2021 Ram 1500, durability, technology, safety, and performance are some of the attributes that earned its place for 2021’s IIHS Top Safety Pick. Prospective buyers can be confident in the Ram 1500 for being a very safe and durable truck that inspires confidence on the road and in rough terrain. But Ram did not stop at just the 1500 version of the Ram pickup truck, the company invested heavily in the Ram 1500’s bigger brother, the Ram 1500 TRX which has been rigorously tested to handle the most punishing conditions with extreme capability and durability. Both trucks share structural elements like the chassis and are made from high-quality and durable steel that makes up their frames, vehicle characteristics that make the Ram 1500 platform a very tough one that rivals other pickup trucks.

Best-In-Class Safety Rating Over Competitors

With the best rating from the IIHS, the 2021 Ram 1500 Crew Cab takes the top spot for being the most durable and reliable pickup truck of 2021 and gives other trucks in the full-size pickup segment like the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and the Ford F-150 a run for their money. By providing best-in-class safety aids for the driver and the passengers, the 2021 Ram 1500 Crew cab is a perfect choice for the prospective buyer who values the safety and reliability of a truck.
