As of 2023, Jeep commemorated 20 years as the exclusive automotive sponsor of the X Games, which is the extreme sports counterpart to the Olympics. The X Games were initiated in 1994 in a much more carefree atmosphere than what is witnessed nowadays. At the time, it permitted, for example, Tony Hawk to exceed his assigned time slot in 1999 and, after ten attempts, land the first ever skateboard 900 – the equivalent of 2.5 turns on a vertical ramp. Now, however, the X Games exhibit much more stringent regulations, and the event has garnered a renowned reputation through regular levels of attendance and well-known athletes, bolstered by distinguished sponsors, including Jeep, since 2003. Jeep launched its revelry at the X Games Aspen 2023, which used to have the description of the Winter X Games.
Let the X Games Begin
The event kicked off on Saturday, January 28, 2023, with the Jeep Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle competition. The automaker also did the honors and introduced the Jeep Presents: X Games Aspen Best in Snow title to one athlete at the contest’s culmination on Sunday, January 29, 2023, after the X Games judging panel had decided. The winner of such coveted praise was Marcus Kleveland, and not only did he receive bragging rights, but he was also presented with a Jeep Golden Grille X Games Award to represent the distinction.
Over the years, the connection between Jeep and extreme sports has grown into a tight-knit bond, as expanded upon by Jim Morrison, senior vice president and head of Jeep brand North America: “Our 20-year partnership with the X Games has provided an authentic venue for the Jeep brand to engage with sports and like-minded outdoor enthusiasts who share an uncompromising desire to seek adventure and blaze their path, one that isn’t defined by boundaries.” Furthermore, at Aspen’s Buttermilk Mountain, the partnership between the two integrated advertising, linear, social, digital, and experiential extensions.
Jeep’s 20-year Influence on the X Games
Indeed, the brand acted as a profound presence at the games with automobiles that were showcased at the start line, the corral, the slopestyle course, the television host set, and the Jeep Theater. In all sincerity, on both live streaming platforms and TV, it proved difficult not to take note of specific top-tier trims such as the Gladiator Rubicon, the Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk, the Wrangler 4xe Rubicon, the Grand Cherokee 4xe Summit, and the Wrangler 4xe Willys. It should come as no surprise that Jeep emphasized the heritage aspect of each of the trims that were put on display. After all, they all draw inspiration from quintessential off-roaders that are outfitted to go off the beaten path and are imbued with the promise of adventure. There were no better vehicles to present at an occasion that was specially meant to highlight adrenaline-fueled feats. As stated by Scotty James, an Australian snowboarder and four-time Olympian, “This is a stacked field and I love being part of that. It’s a big final, it’s X Games, the crowd is going to be firing. You’ve got to bring your best in an environment like that.”
For those individuals who spent some time taking in the action from the outdoor Jeep Theater, attendees had the option to enter sweepstakes to win $100,000 toward any eligible Jeep brand automobile. Those who made the decision to register were also granted the honor of a vehicle walk-around with a product specialist, which incorporated a Jeep-branded gift while supplies remained available.
