Under the hood of every 2023 Jeep Compass lies a new 200 horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four with 221 pound-feet of torque. It is paired with an eight-speed transmission, and standard all-wheel drive is found on all Compass trims. Trailhawk trims include a low “crawler” gear ratio and a Rock mode, maintaining the vehicle in first gear while torque is sent only to the wheels that can find purchase. The Compass is a deft vehicle with sufficiently adequate steering that responds impressively to driver input. The crossover SUV handles well, remains stable on the road, and stays sturdy overall. Not only is it a solid ride on the road but it is also reliable off-road over moderately rugged terrain.

What’s new for 2023?

The largest change for the 2023 model year is that the Jeep Compass receives a more powerful powertrain with a 200 horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four. It provides a much-appreciated increase in acceleration when compared to the previous 2.4-liter engine that revved up to 177 or 180 horsepower depending on specification. Moreover, front-wheel drive will no longer be provided as an option, as all-wheel drive is now considered standard equipment. Other enhancements include a new eight-speed automatic transmission and a rear seat reminder system.

Exterior Features

The 2023 Jeep Compass has a refined exterior coupled with a striking new aesthetic for the tires. For example, the Trailhawk trim is characterized by 17-inch painted diamond-cut aluminum wheels and is topped off with an all-black look. The seven-slot grille, while recognizable on its own, is now combined with smooth textures and rounded edges. Similarly, the front and rear of the automobile feature sophisticated, sleek, and sporty details that make the Compass a touch more contemporary. LED headlamps and fog lamps are also available, while the roof intentionally takes on a glossy, black sheen to extend the length of the SUV and emphasize its exterior lines.

Interior Features

The Compass’s interior is practical, comfortable, and can fit four adult passengers with ease. In other words, it has a cohesive style. The back seat has high seat bottoms that are capable of fully supporting passengers’ legs, which translates to comfortable rides – even long ones. The cabin also contains a heated steering wheel as well as heated front seats. In addition, the vehicle can hold seventeen carry-on suitcases with the seats stowed, making it ideal luggage space for a trip to the airport.

Entertainment

The 2023 Jeep Compass is equipped with a standard touchscreen display that measures 8.4 inches, with the availability of a larger 10.1-inch system on select trims. Navigation and natural voice recognition are integrated into the infotainment unit, as well. Along with Android Auto smartphone connectivity and Apple CarPlay, the Compass offers a six-speaker sound system and first- and second-row USB ports.

Safety Features and Warranty

A suite of safety features are incorporated into the 2023 Compass, such as forward collision warning with active braking, tire pressure monitors, and blind-spot monitoring. Other standard driver-assistance technology includes lane-keeping assist, available adaptive cruise control, and a drowsy driver monitor to help detect when a driver is falling asleep at the wheel. As for the vehicle’s warranty, all trims come with complimentary three-year maintenance. Meanwhile, the limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles, and the powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles.
