Jeep is thoroughly shaking up the 2023 Cherokee lineup. Jeep will offer two trims this model year(2023): the new Altitude Lux and the Trailhawk. There has also been a reduction in the engine options, with the elimination of the previous 3.2-liter V-6 engine in favor of the remaining naturally aspirated 180 horsepower 2.4-liter inline-four and a 270 horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four. This arrangement comes shortly before the brand’s scheduled idling of its Belvidere, Illinois, plant in February 2023, where the compact SUV is currently assembled.

Jeep will remove the X and the Limited trims from its 2023 lineup with those resolutions in place. The base Altitude Lux trim will now have a beginning price tag of $39,290 MSRP (Plus destination fee). Similarly, the Trailhawk commences at $42,890 MSRP (Plus destination fee). That being said, Jeep has also made a few enhancements to the 2023 Cherokee Trailhawk. Standard equipment now features an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal garage door opener, automatic high beams, a security alarm, and much more.

The Ins and Outs of the 2023 Cherokee Altitude Lux

For a compact SUV that might be witnessing its final generation, the 2023 Jeep Cherokee certainly does not cut corners as far as the amenities are concerned. The more affordable 2023 Cherokee Altitude Lux is introduced with Gloss Black parts for the body trim, emblems, and the grille surrounds. The vehicle is mounted on 17-inch wheels with a gloss-black finish, even though an 18-inch size is currently available for consumers that prefer such an option. The interior of the Altitude Lux is composed of creature comforts like Piano Black trim and black Nappa leather upholstery.

Standard features include heating for the seats and the steering wheel. It also comes with an 8.4-inch infotainment system, complete with navigation. The safety technology incorporates parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, and a semi-autonomous parallel and perpendicular park assist function. In addition, the trim has a practical feature that makes it much simpler for drivers to traverse rough terrain. The Jeep Selec-Terrain, as it is called, consists of a traction control system with several different modes to select from. The modes are the following: Auto, Sport, Snow, and Sand/Mud.

The Ins and Outs of the 2023 Cherokee Trailhawk

While the 2023 Altitude Lux received its fair share of modifications, so did the 2023 Cherokee Trailhawk. Aside from the aforementioned standard equipment, the Trailhawk also touts an 8.4-inch infotainment display with navigation. Park assist and adaptive cruise control also form part of the advancements.

The current generation Cherokee is nearing the end of the road. However, despite Jeep’s decision to idle its Belvidere plant, there is speculation revolving around further Cherokee production at Stellantis’ Toluca, Mexico, plant, which is currently tasked with building the Jeep Compass. In conjunction with the Cherokee’s age, that potential move has had hunches circulating that a successor to the trim could be in the works. The real question is, will the automobile retain its well-known drivetrain, or will it spawn an entirely electrified variant? Only time will tell.
