Jeep Takes the Plunge into Electrification with the Wagoneer S

To remain current with customer preferences and deliver on its commitments under the Dare Forward 2030 strategy, Jeep, the company renowned for its competent off-road enthusiasts, has finally decided to explore the electric vehicle market. The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S is Jeep’s fully electric take on the Range Rover Sport.
It is a brand new car that Jeep recently unveiled in the 2023 model year in order to usher in the electrification era and provide consumers with a robust electric SUV. Of note, it will not be named the Wagoneer S when it reaches American roads – the name was a placeholder to underscore this two-row SUV’s premium atmosphere and its “speedy, striking, and sexy” intentions.
Coming In Bold
Jeep is eager to offer customers an electric SUV that has similar capabilities to the now-discontinued Hellcat engine-fueled Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. The Wagoneer S will fiercely compete with capable European juggernauts like the Mercedes-Benz EQS-Class SUV and Audi E-Tron at the time it enters the American market. The all-wheel drive Wagoneer S is expected to have a maximum power output of 600 horsepower, which could be enough to send the SUV from naught to 60 miles per hour in just 3.5 seconds. The vehicle is also anticipated to boast a 400 mile range.
It is worth noting that the Wagoneer S does not replace the refreshed three-row Wagoneer. Instead, it will run alongside it to provide buyers the option to go on the zero-tailpipe emission route without feeling like they are compelled to do so. That said, the Wagoneer S is the Jeep vehicle with the most electric style front-end that has been revealed thus far; that is to say, the Jeep grille has now been fully designed to have LED-illuminated sections between each of the seven bars of the grille. Moreover, the Wagoneer S promises tremendous visibility and natural daylight within the cabin, with a glass roof and large windows to permit ample light to enter the new vehicle.
One of the most curious exterior elements of the Wagoneer S is the hovering wing that spans the rear of the Jeep, just above the liftgate. This is certainly a unique interpretation of the rear wing styled above the back window, and the top-down view gives the impression that the wing is hovering above the car. Indeed, with a sleek side profile that is quintessentially American but part of an association of brands headquartered in Italy and a group based in the Netherlands, Jeep is attempting to stay ahead of the curve by gradually replacing engines with motors.
Jeep’s Performance Standards
According to editors at moparinsiders.com, “Built on the cutting-edge STLA Large architecture, the 2024 Wagoneer S delivers exceptional performance to match its luxurious appeal.” The vehicle will come outfitted with a conventional charger as standard, and a wireless charging pad may be available as an option.
The brand’s all-terrain management system and front-rear locking control with Selec-Terrain Traction Management Platform, performance pages, and–most importantly–several drive modes will all be included with the drivetrain. The company also plans to properly hybridize the existing Wagoneer. If the battery-electric variant is not something a customer likes, the plug-in hybrid could help with the transition or might be a useful option to get more power without increasing emissions.
