Ram and Jeep attained several top honors at the renowned 2023 Texas Truck Rodeo, hosted by the Texas Automotive Writers Association (TAWA). This year’s event was held in Decatur, Texas, at the spectacular Eagles Canyon Raceway. The awards were announced on November 9, 2023, with a virtual red carpet in partnership with the Houston Auto Show on November 14, 2023.

Automotive journalists from across the state tested a cross-section of the world’s most capable vehicles at this year’s event, occurring between September 28 and 29, 2023. TAWA members began the day at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas and then traveled to Decatur to evaluate vehicles based on their value, exterior, performance, interior, and overall personal appeal.

This year (2023), the title award categories were Truck of Texas and Sport Utility Vehicle of Texas. An additional 11 category awards, five calculated merit awards, and two feature-based awards were also distributed by TAWA’s member journalists.

Ram’s Recognitions

Stellantis brands emerged as the frontrunners, securing a staggering nine awards, the highest tally among all manufacturers at the event. Ram, in particular, demonstrated its supremacy by securing numerous consecutive awards, notably the coveted Full-Size Pickup Truck of Texas title. The Ram 1500 not only claimed this accolade for the sixth consecutive year, but also secured the Luxury Pickup Truck of Texas award for the eighth straight year.

Outstandingly, the Ram 1500 pickup’s allure was further highlighted by topping the scoring charts with the highest personal appeal, a significant accomplishment in the heart of the nation’s truck capital. Continuing its reign in the Heavy Duty category, the 2023 Ram 2500 Rebel extended Ram’s authority for the seventh consecutive year by earning the title of Heavy Duty Pickup Truck of Texas.

Jeep’s Accolades

Jeep vehicles also made a resounding impact, with the Jeep Grand Cherokee winning the Mid-Size SUV of Texas for the fifth time, underscoring its excellence in the highly competitive mid-size category. Meanwhile, the Jeep Wrangler secured its place as a perennial champion by winning the Off-Road SUV category for the ninth time.

The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 added to the automaker’s success by topping the score charts for Best Performance. In addition to these splendid vehicular achievements, Stellantis’ Uconnect 5 infotainment system was recognized with the Best Feature award, further emphasizing the comprehensive excellence of Stellantis brands.

It is worth noting that Teia Collier, TAWA president, praised the performance of these exemplary automobiles, commenting, “Ram trucks brought their A-game again this year, winning several consecutive awards, including the Full-size Pickup Truck of Texas, and scoring the highest for overall personal appeal, which is significant because Texas is the truck capital of the US.” Collier added, “We also enjoyed the lineup from the Jeep brand, with several vehicles that were the stars of their categories offering incredible performance, craftsmanship and capability.”
