Jeep has taken a massive leap into the future with its latest creation, the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S electric SUV. This all-new electric vehicle is not just a departure from its gas-powered predecessors, but also a bold statement of the automaker’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and style. This article delves into the features and specifications of the Wagoneer S, exploring what makes it a game-changer in the automotive market.

It did not take Jeep long to share more information about its first electric vehicle in the United States. On January 30, 2024, the manufacturer released images of the upcoming Wagoneer S, less than two weeks after announcing the SUV would be its first battery-powered model available stateside. An official press release suggests the vehicle will bring much-needed style and energy to the brand’s lineup.

The Aesthetic

Despite its name, the new model does not appear all that similar to the other hulking members of the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer family. To clarify, whereas the two gasoline-fueled SUVs are large and boxy, their electric counterpart is sleeker than anything else available in the current Jeep lineup. It also looks very close to the concept images the brand released when it first announced the vehicle was in development, back in the fall of the 2022 model year. The changes begin up front. There, customers will find a pair of razor-thin headlights that blend right into an illuminated take on the automaker’s trademark seven-slot grille.

The SUV’s lines, from front to back, are also smoother, signaling attention is being paid to aerodynamics–a sensible choice considering a lower drag coefficient aids battery efficiency. Additionally, the vehicle features an integrated spoiler and a sloping roofline. The most noticeable difference between the newly released images and those of the concept is the simplified five-spoke wheels that the finished electric vehicle will ride on.

The Cabin

The interior also sports a streamlined look. Images of the cabin depict a dashboard brimming with four different digital display units. It is worth noting that these include a digital gauge cluster for the driver, two touchscreens stacked on top of one another in the center to control vehicle systems and entertainment options, and another for the passenger that can be utilized to watch videos. That said, despite the abundant amount of screen space, the vehicle will retain physical controls such as a rotary shift dial and a start button, both located on the center console.

The images were not accompanied by more technical details. However, Jeep reiterated that the Wagoneer S will be built on parent company Stellantis’ flexible STLA-Large platform and provide the same 4xe capabilities as its hybrids. It also declared once again that the powertrain will generate 600 horsepower and be able to push the SUV from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 3.5 seconds. Enthusiasts should expect to learn more as the electric vehicle’s fall 2024 debut gets closer.
