Chrysler Makes an Eye-Catching Introduction into the Electric Vehicle Segment

Chrysler’s electric future might be worth getting excited about. On February 13, 2024, the brand, under the Stellantis umbrella, displayed its vision for a fully electric future with the unveiling of the Chrysler Halcyon Concept. This concept car not only represents a significant leap toward sustainable mobility but also serves as a harbinger for the automaker’s technological aspirations and design direction. The Halcyon is an all-new sedan concept that the manufacturer declares is a preview of its upcoming electric vehicle. The sleek four-door is easily the most visually stunning car drivers have seen from the brand in quite some time–if not ever.
The Simplified Exterior
The exterior of the Chrysler Halcyon Concept is nothing short of striking. Indeed, the Halcyon could not look more different from Chrysler’s current vehicles, all minivans, or its most recent sedan, the discontinued 300. Whereas that four-door was large and bulky, the concept is refined and chiseled.
For example, the Halcyon Concept’s low-to-the-ground stance and aerodynamic silhouette are punctuated by dramatic proportions emphasizing efficiency and elegance. The front air blade pass-through hints at enhanced performance capabilities while contributing to range optimization–an essential aspect for battery-electric vehicles. Butterfly-hinged doors coupled with red-carpet-style side openings provide a grandiose entryway reminiscent of futuristic luxury rarely seen on today’s (2024) roads.
The Interior Style and Technological Elements
Inside, the Halcyon Concept boasts an interior crafted from 95 percent sustainable materials. To that end, the electric vehicle’s interior promises to be as much of a departure from Chrysler’s past as the exterior. The doors and roof panels open to reveal a streamlined and airy space. The dashboard is about as spartan as can be, with merely an oval-shaped steering wheel and a single rotating infotainment display unit in the center. The cabin looks as though it will have room for four, with the rear “Stow ‘n Go” seats retracting into the floor when occupants require more cargo room.
Technologically, this concept car does not shy away from depicting advanced components such as STLA AutoDrive technology enabling Level 4 autonomous driving experiences. It even includes Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer (DWPT) technology promising unlimited range through wireless recharging—a bold claim awaiting real-world validation. Additionally, predictive navigation systems aim to streamline route planning seamlessly integrated within daily life connectivity.
The significance of customer-focused technology is described in detail by Chris Feuell, Chrysler brand CEO: “The Chrysler Halcyon Concept creates a level of serenity that fully represents the Halcyon name. The Halcyon showcases innovative and sustainable mobility solutions that embrace technology and offer value to customers while delivering Harmony in Motion.” Feuell adds, “The Chrysler Halcyon Concept brings to life a fully electric tomorrow through new technology suites from Stellantis that integrate with simple and pure aerodynamic design and a seamless, connected and immersive cockpit experience.”
Under the Hood
Just as intriguing as the Halcyon Concept’s design is what lies beneath it. Information is limited about its performance and powertrain, but Chrysler states the concept utilizes the same STLA Large platform that will be used in the upcoming Dodge Charger Daytona and Jeep Wagoneer S electric vehicles. Specifically, it will utilize an 800-volt architecture and lithium-sulfur battery pack. The brand also announced the Halcyon will be able to push the boundaries of fast charging. It claims drivers will be able to add 200 miles of range to the electric vehicle after just five minutes connected to a charger.
Chrysler hopes to release its first electric vehicle in 2025, although it is unknown if it will be the Halcyon.
