Back in September 2022, Jeep unveiled concept variants of its first electric vehicles as part of its 4xe Day celebrations. Much commotion was made about the Wagoneer S. Even though the name might suggest it will be a three-row luxury SUV like the internal combustion engine-powered Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, it seems poised to be a two-row, street-oriented performance crossover. Jeep announced it will fully reveal the Wagoneer S on May 30, 2024, in New York City.

Meanwhile, the automaker recently published a nearly two-minute teaser video on YouTube and its other social media accounts depicting its first all-electric SUV in the United States on the move at Willow Springs raceway in California. Enthusiasts would expect the vehicle to demonstrate its all-out grunt on the track, and Jeep does line the Wagoneer S up against the Tesla Model Y Performance. However, the pitch for the teaser video delivers a different message. Granted, the two roll out side-by-side with each briefly pulling ahead of the other, but it is not truly about having a drag race.

Instead, the fight is a metaphorical one. Even though the manufacturer began competing against America’s best-selling electric vehicle brand, the real yardstick is Jeep itself. This deduction offers a plausible explanation for the title of the teaser: “Surpass Yourself.” Once the drag race concludes, the Model Y exits the track, and viewers at least receive a small sample of what is typically associated with Jeep rather than raw performance as the automobile heads off-road.

That said, the all-new Jeep Wagoneer S is built on the new, highly flexible battery-electric vehicle-native STLA-Large platform and features a custom-made driver control center with a unique Jeep brand-exclusive Selec-Terrain toggle. Of note, the Wagoneer S boasts a Sand drive mode.

What are the Specs of the Wagoneer S?

As mentioned, Jeep’s first electric SUV is expected to be a two-row, street-oriented performance crossover, but it is very much a Jeep. For example, expect 4×4 capability and a terrain management system that ensures it will not embarrass itself off-road.

  • Sleek, premium design
  • Ample electric power should ensure sporty performance

Indeed, the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S will be the quickest model to date, at least according to the automaker’s own estimates. The performance metric the brand really wants customers to focus on in the teaser video is the cameo of the 707-horsepower Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, posting a zero to 60 acceleration run of 3.5 seconds. The Wagoneer S, for its part, will do it in 3.4 seconds – a tenth quicker than earlier claims.

Sources also indicate that with an electric motor on each axle, the all-wheel drive Wagoneer S will have 600 horsepower. While that figure is not new, its immense torque output of 617 pound-feet is fresh information. Moreover, that is 28 short of the Hellcat V-8-powered Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. Jeep also promises its midsize electric SUV will run approximately 300 miles on a charge.
