Ram and Jeep Go Electric in Michigan
In September 2024, Stellantis announced an investment surpassing $406 million in three Michigan plants to promote its multi-energy venture. Essential ambitions include:
- Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP): Advanced retooling of the facility for the assembly of range-extended electric and battery electric variants of the Ram 1500, along with internal combustion engine-fueled models
- Warren Truck Assembly Plant (WTAP): Stellantis plans to present electrified Jeep Wagoneer models to its production line.
- Dundee Engine Plant (DEP): The factory will concentrate on building machining elements and battery trays to form the groundwork for gas engines and electric motors.
What is the Target of Stellantis EV in 2030?
These investments align with Stellantis’ Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan of guiding the global mobility transition by offering sustainable and inventive results. For example, a $235.5 million investment will allow the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant to become Stellantis’ first American factory to produce a fully electric vehicle.
The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger, a range-extended light-duty truck, and the 2025 Ram 1500 REV, a battery-electric model, will be built here. SHAP’s multi-energy initiative bolsters output with simultaneous production of battery electric vehicle (BEV), internal combustion engine (ICE), and range-extended models on a single line.
Effects on Ram
The Ram 1500 REV, rooted in the new STLA Frame platform, provides 500 miles of range with its largest battery pack option. On the other hand, the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger will accelerate up to a staggering 663 horsepower and deliver 14,000 pounds of towing capacity. Stellantis capitalized on an ingenious battery design and a one-of-a-kind range-extending generator to achieve these exceptional performance specifications.

In turn, the Warren Truck Assembly Plant is prepared to receive $97.6 million to lay the foundation for the production of electrified Jeep Wagoneer automobiles, part of the automaker’s global electric vehicle endeavor. Notably, these electrified models will be assembled in tandem with conventional ICE iterations, underscoring Stellantis’ versatile manufacturing method.
Revamping Manufacturing
Whereas the Sterling Heights and Warren Truck assembly plants will center exclusively on vehicle production, the Dundee Engine Plant will be retooled. With over $73 million in investment, it will specialize in beam machining and battery tray production for existing gas engine assembly while complementing future electric vehicles. According to Stellantis, assembly of these all-new elements will commence in 2024 and 2026. The components’ production is paramount to the company’s electrification aims.
By employing the Dare Forward 2030 strategy, Stellantis aspires to grow into a worldwide influence in electrification, committing over $55 billion through the decade. The company targets 100 percent BEV sales in Europe and 50 percent in America by 2030, backed by 400 gigawatt hours of battery capacity. Moreover, Stellantis plans to gain carbon net zero status by 2038.
