The Ever-Expanding Jeep Cherokee Lineup
Jeep announced it’s expanding the existing Jeep Cherokee lineup by one additional trim — the Latitude Lux trim. Even though the Cherokee’s top-tier trim, the Trailhawk trim, is the lineup’s most powerful vehicle, it doesn’t usually make the cut as the most popular trim. In fact, the most popular Jeep Cherokee trim is the mid-tier Jeep Cherokee Latitude. Noawdays, Jeep is offering three different variations of the Latitude trim — including the all-new Latitude Lux, in addition to the existing Latitude and Latitude Plus. Prospective buyers seeking a mid-tier Jeep Cherokee model with a touch of luxury can bank on the new Cherokee Latitude Lux with its leather upholstery and other upscale standard features starting at a reasonable $31,395 (including the destination fee).
The latest trim expands on the dependable Cherokee Latitude series with heated front seats, leather seat upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, power lumbar for the passenger, rain-sensitive windshield wipers, a windshield wiper de-icer, and remote start. As far as advanced safety features go, the Cherokee Latitude Lux offers buyers Forward Collision Warning with Automated Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control and more. That’s a significant upgrade in safety features, considering the next-level-up trim, the Cherokee Limited, starts at $33,095 (including the destination fee).
The Jeep Cherokee Latitude Lux is powered by a standard Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ (FCA) 3.2-liter Pentastar V6 engine with 271 horsepower. As with most Cherokee trims, buyers can choose between front- or all-wheel-drive. The Cherokee Latitude Lux is available in the following exterior colors: shades of black, gray, silver, blue, red, brown, and olive green are available for $245, while white is the only no-cost color.
Mopar Insiders reports that the current Latitude and Latitude Plus trims account for almost half of all Cherokee sales — 44 percent of sales to be exact. Jeep is likely searching for a way to entice prospective buyers with the latest Cherokee Latitude Lux addition as they spend more to get the extra amenities. Volume was expectedly down given the recent COVID-19 outbreak, but FCA is reevaluating its products and production to really deliver on the fronts that customers want. Despite the current difficulties, Jeep delivered an impressive 33,675 units of the Cherokee model during the first quarter of 2020.
Jeep also doesn’t shy away from infotainment, as the 2020 Jeep Cherokee comes equipped with FCA’s Uconnect infotainment system. All Latitude trims offer buyers a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen display, complete with Apple CarPlay, Google Android Auto, and hands-free wireless Bluetooth capabilities. Navigation is still an optional upgrade on the Latitude Lux while a six-speaker audio system is standard, although an amplified-speaker system with HD radio is available as an upgrade as well.
