Dodge Charger, Challenger Sales Surge During Third Quarter of 2020
Automotive sales have slowed during the ongoing pandemic, but even then, some car brands have enough of a reason to remain optimistic. Dodge is one of those brands. Dodge’s executives are reporting that their sales numbers would’ve been even more impressive had the initial quarantine not depleted their available inventory. Keep in mind that the pandemic forced automakers to shut down manufacturing and assembly plants from March-May (2020). Since then, the market has slowly recovered, and in turn, both the Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger models set new sales records for September. Both the Charger and Challenger outsold the Ford Mustang during the third quarter of 2020.
“We only publish total quarterly numbers. But if you look inside the numbers at true retail sales to real customers and not to rental car agencies, Charger and Challenger had the best September they’ve ever had in the history of the cars,” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of FCA Passenger Cars. That’s not all, though; Dodge also had specific trims set new sales records as well. “It was also the best Hellcat month in like three years, and the best Scat Pack month in the history of the nameplate,” Kuniskis added.
These record-breaking sales couldn’t have come at a better time as Dodge is gearing up to refresh its lineup for the 2021 model year. One of the biggest additions for Dodge in 2021? The new 2021 Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock is not only the quickest muscle car available on the market; it’s even more powerful than the Dodge Challenger Demon that preceded it as well. Dodge is also responsible for the fastest sedan on the market, the 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye, and the world’s most powerful production SUV — the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat. While both the Charger and Challenger are slated for regular production, the Durango SRT Hellcat is a halo product — it’s exclusive and limited to the 2021 model year only with no plans to continue the trim in the future.
“The cars are working, and it’s working because customers are gravitating to the spirit of the brand and the attitude of the brand,” added Kuniskis.
2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody
The 2021 Dodge Charger features a new front and rear fascia and integrated fender flares that add 3.5-inches of width to the already hefty sedan — hence the Widebody name. The extra body helpt shelter large Pirelli 305/35ZR20 tires that wrap around 20-inch wheels. The tires are significantly larger than the standard rubber on other Charger trims, providing additional grip and making an apparent difference in handling Dodge claims. The Widebody package also offers buyers upgraded brakes and model-specific suspension tuning that features Bilstein three-mode adaptive damping.
The Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody has a 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat HEMI V8 under its hood, making 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. As one of the most boisterous sedans on the market, the Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody goes from zero to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, with a quarter-mile time of 10.96 seconds and a whopping 196-mph top speed, according to Dodge. The upgraded brakes we mentioned earlier also shave four feet off the stopping distance while driving at 60 mph.
