The Most Powerful Ram Heavy Duty Pickup Strikes Again

December 8th, 2020 by

Continuing its lucky streak, Ram announced the 2021 Ram Heavy Duty model will remain the most powerful, most capable pickup in its segment thanks to its towing capacity of 37,100 pounds due to a gooseneck hitch. Ram Trucks is committed to redefining not only the segment, but also how people interact with its vehicles, and the truck maker is a fine proponent of the adage “you don’t even know it’s back there” when referring to towing or hauling.

“Ram regains capability leadership by delivering the highest-ever torque rating for a diesel pickup truck and heaviest gooseneck towing capacity. We understand the attributes that are most important to our customers within the heavy-duty segment, they demand hard-working, long-lasting capability,” said Mike Koval Jr., Head of Ram Brand.

Building the Torque King of Heavy-Duty Pickups

Ram Trucks worked in tandem with Cummins, the diesel engine developer, to improve its 2021 lineup. Cummins increased its limits for boosting the turbocharger and increased the flow in the fuel delivery system. These minor adjustments allow the Cummins turbo diesel 6.7-liter inline-six engine — the one that’s under the hood of the most powerful Ram Heavy Duty pickup — to produce an additional 75 lb-ft of torque, for a total of 1,075 lb-ft of torque — all while maintaining the famed engine’s durability and efficiency.

The new towing figure is made possible by a hitch design from Ram Engineering, with the upgraded capability making the Ram 3500 able to haul the heaviest travel trailers out there. Another new feature on the 2021 Ram Heavy Duty includes a digital rearview mirror that displays real-time video from a rear-facing camera that can also be turned off and revert to a traditional mirror display. This feature is available on all Heavy Duty models and trims and gives drivers an unobstructed view that enhances overall safety while on the job or road.

Ram Heavy Duty models also bring forth a new level of refinement to the segment by continuing the truck brand’s leadership with premium materials, colors, textures, technology, luxury, and overall refinement. The Ram Heavy Duty models also feature the segment-disrupting Uconnect 4c with Navigation that’s paired with a 12-inch reconfigurable touchscreen display that’s got tailor-made graphics depending on the Ram model and state-of-the-art connectivity. There’s even a split-screen that allows for the ultimate personalization, all while allowing two different applications to display at once. 2021 Ram Heavy Duty trucks will be available at dealerships this December (2020).
