Ram Truck Closes Out 2020 With Impressive “Truck of the Year” Three-peat
Third time’s the charm, or so they say — but for Ram Trucks third time just means the brand’s completed an impressive “three-peat.” MotorTrend just named the all-new Ram 1500 TRX its 2021 Truck of the Year, the third win for Ram Trucks in as many years. The Ram 1500 earned the 2019 title, while the Ram Heavy Duty took top honors for 2020. Since launching as a standalone brand more than a decade ago, Ram has captured MotorTrend’s top honor a total of six times: 2010, 2013, 2014, 2019, 2020, and 2021. In the publication’s 71-year history, no other automaker has earned the Truck of the Year title for three consecutive years.

MotorTrend’s “Of the Year” award is one of the most coveted in the industry due to its recognition of exceptional value, vehicle superiority in its class, and overall impact on the automotive scene. The program is available to any all-new or substantially upgraded 2021 model-year automobiles. MotorTrend has a series of tests to evaluate every aspect of each qualifying vehicle. All competitors are evaluated on three separate courses throughout various automotive test centers before the publication selects its finalists.

Once testing comes to a close, the judges are tasked with determining which vehicles are worthy of the “Of the Year” honors. Contrary to popular belief, the winners are not chosen from direct competition with other models, but instead against the award’s six criteria. MotorTrend takes into account overall value, efficiency, engineering excellence, the performance of intended function, safety, and design advancement.
