The Iconic Jeep Wrangler Goes Electric

Jeep has given us a tease of the future for their new Wrangler model that will be reborn in an all-electric variant. No official photos have been released yet, but there have been conversations and rumors among top automotive sites like Gear Patrol and CarandDriver, that the new Jeep Wrangler EV Concept will be released next month during the 2021 Annual Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah. There are no confirmations yet on specifications, but we can be sure that the Jeep Wrangler EV Concept will be battery-powered only and at the very minimum have one electric motor to provide power to the wheels. We can also expect the concept to remain with the same exterior styling that Jeep is known for like their iconic front grille and signature headlights. Although for concept vehicles, design changes can be expected like new wheels and design tweaks on the body, we will ultimately have to wait until late March to see it.

We can be sure the future Jeep Wrangler EV will build upon the gasoline-electric hybrid model that Jeep currently has in their line-up, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe. The Wrangler 4xe is a mix between a turbocharged 2.0 L 4-cylinder engine and a pair of electric motors, but the highly anticipated Jeep Wrangler EV will do away with an internal combustion engine making it the first Jeep Wrangler to be solely powered by electric motors. The Jeep brand is confident in its transition to electrification with the possibility of a production version soon to follow later this year (2021) or in early 2022.

The Wrangler EV Concept

For urban commuters and adventure seekers, an EV variant of the Jeep Wrangler is an exciting proposition and a bold go-to-market strategy for the Jeep Brand in the EV segment. What we do know is that Jeep confirmed a full-electric version of a Wrangler EV in their “Road Ahead” website announcing its reveal at this year’s Easter Jeep Safari in late March.

The Wrangler EV Concept will very likely have the following:

4×4 Capability – Off-road driving capability is a must for any Jeep enthusiast and the Jeep Wrangler EV Concept will very likely have an improved 4×4 drivetrain system.

Capable Battery Power – The Concept EV will likely harness the power of very energy-efficient fuel cells that will allow it to travel long distances.

Iconic Design –  Jeep will more than certainly carry over their famous front grille design and headlight housing design in their Concept EV.

LED Lighting –  We can expect factory LED headlights, fog lights, and taillights to be standard equipment.

2021 Easter Jeep Safari

Every year Jeep enthusiasts and members of the Rock 4-Wheelers off-road club gather to spend nine days trekking the rough terrain of the backcountry of Moab, Utah with their Jeeps. This year’s Jeep Safari will be in late March and will last well through early April. Jeep will use this event as a marketing strategy to showcase their brand new Wrangler EV Concept. The concept will have its debut in the red rock country of Moab where there are desert plateaus, deep canyons, and valleys that make the perfect environment for testing out Jeep’s new concept.  For the exact schedule, the event will run from March 27 to April 4, with plenty of time for outdoor adventures and test drives. The event is solely meant for registered members of the Rock 4-Wheelers off-road club, for information on joining their group you can visit their website at rr4w.com.  Much of the details for Jeep’s Wrangler EV Concept have been kept hidden until the day it will get revealed to the public but we can expect more details as the days get closer to the big event.

Traditional Jeep Design But Battery-Powered

Even if some changes do occur with Jeep’s EV concept, it’s very unlikely that Jeep will ever change the iconic seven-slot front grille design and round headlights. After all, it’s these two features that give Jeep its branded name and reputation. Although some Jeep enthusiasts may be on the fence about accepting a Jeep that has no engine in it since a battery-powered Jeep will lack that engine grunt that resonates with most Jeep enthusiasts, future buyers of the Wrangler EV will have to deal with its silent ride quality. But we can be confident that the instant torque that will be generated by its batteries will be more than capable of giving the Wrangler the power it needs for off-road driving.

When Is It Going to be Released?

The release date of a production-ready Jeep Wrangler EV is still far away in the future, and for now, Jeep will just be unveiling a concept, but that concept can give us a pretty good idea of how the future Wrangler EV will look like in a few years. The engineers at Jeep hope that an EV vehicle will make the Wrangler competitive in the EV segment. For more information on available Jeep models, you can contact us at Cape Coral Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram and take a look at our inventory for amazing deals.
