Dodge Charger and Challenger Will Receive New Security Feature
Dodge announced that it will be offering increased security measures to its line-up of muscle cars in an effort to give drivers added peace of mind. The security feature will be available in the form of a software upgrade on all 2015-2021 Dodge Challenger and Charger models that are equipped with HEMIⓇ V8 or Supercharged 6.2 L HEMIⓇ V8 engines. Owners with 2019-2021 Scat Packs are also eligible to receive the security feature upgrade. Dodge states that once the software is installed, drivers will be able to use their four-digital security code that will limit the engine’s speed to idle at 675 rpm ( or less than 3 horsepower) to thwart auto theft. If theft ever occurs in a Challenger or a Charger, the person will be prompted with a screen where they will need to input the owner’s code to drive the car.
News and Fast Facts
- A double-verification security system will be offered as a complementary service for all high-performing Dodge Chargers and Challengers equipped with HEMIⓇ V8 engines.
- The new security feature will limit the engine to idle speed
- There will be a four-digit code that will be required to drive the vehicle
- Drivers can receive the security feature free of charge
Software Upgrade via Dodge Dealer
The security feature will be at no cost to the driver and can be installed by any Dodge dealership once the complimentary upgrade becomes available at the end of the second quarter of 2021. According to Dodge, this is a double verification security system that will seamlessly integrate into all Uconnect 4C infotainment systems. Drivers who own a Challenger or Charger can be confident that their muscle cars will be more secure than ever before. Whenever car theft does occur, it can ruin someone’s entire day and Dodge doesn’t want that to happen. Dodge is taking calculated measures to improve the security systems of their muscle cars, and the upcoming security software will add an extra layer of security that drivers need.
Technical Information
When HEMIⓇ V8 engines are idling, Dodge says they produce about 2.8 horsepower and 22 lb-ft of torque and this will prevent any person from driving away with the vehicle, thus preventing high-speed chases by police from starting in the first place. The double encryption security feature will simultaneously act as a public safety measure given the power and speed of muscle cars, potential thieves won’t be able to accelerate to make a fast get-away.
Enhanced Security for the Future
Dodge values security and car ownership when it comes to their high-performance muscle cars and that means providing drivers with the security features they need to park their car with confidence. As cars become more desirable in the performance and luxury segment, the need for anti-theft systems will continue to grow and be in demand. For the foreseeable future, we can expect Dodge to continue updating and innovating on current and new security systems in order to protect owners’ vehicles.
