2022 Dodge Durango SUV

The Dodge Durango is the perfect mid-size SUV for drivers that seek muscle car performance and the utility of a family SUV at the same time. Its muscular exterior styling, V8 engine, towing power, and third-row seating make it desirable for the active family. However, it’s an SUV platform showing its age, and that resembles its 2011 body design. But there are a couple of updates in store for the 2022 model year that still make it an attractive vehicle to buy or lease. Regardless of trim level, all new 2022 Durangos are equipped with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, giving drivers added peace of mind on the road.

According to Dodge, not all automated safety features are standard on new Durangos. For example, the adaptive cruise control feature is only available for an added cost as part of a technology package. But it is well worth the extra cost because the adaptive cruise control feature is capable of stopping and slowing the car automatically when traffic stops in front of it, in addition to the forward-collision warning system.

Durango SRT Hellcat Discontinued

Dodge officially confirmed that it is indeed discontinuing the Hellcat trim on the Durango and will no longer carry it into the 2022 model year. This is mainly due to it being a limited-production trim that sold out quickly. This leaves the SRT 392 to fill in the gap, and even though it is not as powerful as the 710hp Hellcat, it has a respectable 475hp from its 6.4 L V8. With the Durango Hellcat gone from the lineup, a performance Durango SUV is still attainable in the SRT 392 trim for about $16,000 less.

The Future of the Durango SUV

The future of the Durango SUV is mainly going to be influenced by the advent of electric vehicles since Dodge plans on introducing its all-electric muscle cars by 2024. This may mean that the Durango SUV may face the chopping block shortly to make room for a lineup of all-electric vehicles. But is there a chance that the Durango SUV will be converted into an all-electric SUV? Only time will tell. This depends on what Dodge envisions for its SUV. However, it will not be a bad investment to convert Durango’s gasoline powertrain to battery power since many automakers manufacture their own electric SUVs.
