Chrysler has partnered with the Autism Society of America to create a vehicle package designed to make those with autism feel safe, calm, and comfortable while riding in a Pacifica minivan. The first 2023 Chrysler Pacifica with a Calm Cabin package was put on display at the New York International Auto Show. The limited trim features branded Autism Society vehicle graphics alongside specialty package elements.

The commitment to such a collaboration, however, runs deeper than simply incorporating a few aesthetic changes to the vehicle. “At Chrysler, we believe it’s no longer enough to be ‘aware’ of the millions of people living and thriving with autism, we must put acceptance into action. We’re proud to offer life-enriching opportunities for individuals with autism and their families with initiatives, such as our new Calm Cabin package, that bring a little harmony to people’s lives, whether they are on a long road trip or running a quick errand,” asserted Chris Feuell, Chrysler brand chief executive officer.

Comprehending Autism

To gain a better grasp of the situation as a whole, readers must understand that, according to the Centers for Disease Control, one in 36 children is diagnosed with autism. As a matter of fact, it is estimated that there are currently 5.8 million autistic adults in the United States. People with autism are much more sensitive to possible stimuli when out on the road. Whether it is the engine’s vibration, honking horns, strange odors, or bumps in the road, these things can create challenges for people with sensory disorders.

Children who do not have autism can have enough trouble riding in a vehicle, particularly on long road trips. Families with autistic members require additional items to ensure a car ride is not accompanied by needless stress. In short, being in an automobile can be uncomfortable and overstimulating for passengers with autism, regardless of the length of the ride.

The Importance of Acceptance

April is Autism Acceptance Month. This makes debuting the new Calm Cabin package at the New York International Auto Show quite a grand event. In addition to presenting this new package, Stellantis reports that Chrysler is providing a one-year loan of three 2023 Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle minivans to the Autism Society. This provides them with three outstanding vehicles to utilize in their continued efforts.

Christopher Banks, president and CEO of the Autism Society of America, claimed, “The Autism Society of America is proud to partner with Chrysler to create an improved and inclusive driving experience for the autism community. With a trusted partner like Chrysler, our work is amplified as we collaborate to instill inclusive workplace practices, product accommodations and create more opportunities for the autism community to live fully.”

The Effects of the Chrysler Pacifica Calm Cabin Package

Highlights of the Calm Cabin package include a rechargeable and cordless Bluetooth meditative light and sound therapy machine, a seat-back organizer with adjustable straps, a soft touch pillow, a seven-layer, 12-pound weighted sensory blanket, and a velvety seat belt sleeve. The sound machine fits in the center of the organizer and features the following:

  • Four light therapy modes
  • Five LED color modes
  • 15 sound therapy modes
  • A breathing coach

Pricing for the sensory-friendly package is not yet available. It will go on sale late this spring at the automaker’s online retail store. Items can be purchased separately as well. Most importantly, Chrysler plans to work in conjunction with its dealer network and the Autism Society to establish a personalized dealer experience for those families with a loved one with autism that is sensitive to their needs.
