Many brands have been working hard to catch up or remain on par with Chrysler, including rival brands. Chrysler’s CEO Chris Feuell has said that a very unlikely contestant is preparing to emerge, evidently heating up the competition even more. Chris Feuell has also stated that Chrysler has precisely what it takes to go toe-to-toe with the electric vehicle pioneer. Chrysler has a very long and rich history in the automotive industry as it has always played an essential role as one of the “Big Three” American automakers next to GM and Ford. It has become one of the most prominent automotive companies since its introduction back in 1925 and has beaten the odds in many ways to get to where it is today.

As the auto industry is undergoing a considerable transformation, some would even argue the biggest one to date; many brands strive to reach incredible heights within the transitional period. Since Chrysler is the first brand under the Stellantis umbrella to offer a plug-in hybrid (the Chrysler Pacifica), there are many directions that the brand can take when it comes to developing its first-ever EV.

Chrysler’s Plans To Surpass Rivals

In January of this year (2022), Chrysler revealed plans for a more electric future, giving the world its first glimpse of the Airflow crossover concept. The company also made its vow at that moment to have a fully electric lineup by the year 2028. According to Chrysler, the Airflow Electric Vehicle concept is what the brand’s future looks like, putting out an impressive 400-mile range. It will also offer level 3 autonomous driving capabilities and what the brand says will be “groundbreaking” digital technology. The goal is to appeal to a young urban driver generation, and Feuell said, “Everyone’s going after Tesla. But I think Chrysler is the one brand in the portfolio that has the capability to do that because we’ll be hyper-focused on just a BEV offering, the design themes, and we saw a little bit of it when you saw the Airflow design. It’s very aero and contemporary with thoughtfully appointed technology that helps make the driving experience easier, better, and safer. And I think that we’ve got a real shot at taking on Tesla.”

Chrysler’s claim to beat Tesla out is a bold statement; however, since it is a part of the Stellantis umbrella (alongside Fiat and Peugeot), it can help the brand gather momentum in this race. As Chrysler progresses on the 2025 Airflow Concept, the company will inevitably make a name for itself in the EV race.
