Mopar recently unveiled a second intriguing concept vehicle, teasing its upcoming showcase at the 2024 SEMA Show. This announcement from a company deeply rooted in automotive history and innovation generated significant excitement. Mopar has evolved into a global powerhouse synonymous with exceptional service, high-quality car parts, and unparalleled customization options.
The latest SEMA teaser, titled “Chapter 2: Muscle Flex,” has shifted the spotlight onto the future of iconic muscle cars. Stellantis posed a provocative question: “What kind of future is there for a legendary muscle car?” and hinted that Mopar’s concept vehicle might provide the answer. A closer look at the accompanying image suggests a potential revival of a classic Dodge muscle car, with legendary names like Charger, Coronet, Challenger, and Dart ripe for resurrection.
Will Mopar Present an Electric Muscle Car at the 2024 SEMA Show?
Mopar might surprise enthusiasts further by reviving a model from the defunct Plymouth brand, potentially a 1967 Plymouth Belvedere GTX. However, while the GTX is a strong contender, its original design didn’t feature a protruding lower air dam or hood air extractors.
It appears Mopar took a restomod approach, restoring the classic Plymouth while incorporating modern technology. Indeed, the dark blue vehicle showcased features restomod enhancements such as refined LED headlights, contemporary hood vents, and an assertive front end extension.

As mentioned, Mopar has been intentionally cryptic, but their hints indicate a fusion of classic muscle car heritage and cutting-edge ingenuity. Given the teaser’s emphasis on the “future” of muscle cars, an electric powertrain conversion seems highly probable.
For example, Chevrolet’s eCrate system electrifies vintage vehicles, offering a potential blueprint for Mopar’s approach. This aligns with the brand’s recent introduction of the all-electric Dodge Charger Daytona. Nonetheless, while electrification is a distinct possibility, it’s unlikely to be the sole future of muscle cars.
Compelling Revisions Under the Hood of Mopar’s Car
Many muscle car and off-road enthusiasts speculate that the Plymouth Belvedere GTX concept could feature a powertrain swap, using the Hurricane inline-six engine destined for the 2025 Dodge Charger. This would align the concept with the Charger’s performance, offering two power levels: a standard 440 horsepower and a high-output 550 horsepower variant.
Although these figures might not match the Hellcat’s output, the Hurricane power plant significantly surpasses the Pentastar V-6 and the retiring 6.4-liter Hemi V-8. This makes it a strong candidate to carry the torch for future muscle cars, as demonstrated by its current use in models like the Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Ram 1500.

Given Mopar’s history of groundbreaking concepts, SEMA attendees can anticipate another showstopper. The company has a proven track record of blending modern engines with upscale aesthetics to create highly acclaimed vehicles. A prime example is the 392 Hemi V-8-powered 1971 Dodge Challenger Shakedown, a concept that directly influenced the 2023 “Last Call” Shakedown models.
