Introducing the Powerful 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat
Dodge continues to do the unimaginable, the automaker introduced the most uncompromising family SUV on the market — the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat. Powered by the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI Hellcat V8, with 710 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque, the Durango SRT Hellcat is the most powerful three-row SUV in its segment. When it comes to sheer strength, the Durango SRT Hellcat offers buyers a top speed of 180 mph, a National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) -certified quarter-mile time of 11.5 seconds, and runs 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds.
“The Brotherhood of Muscle includes families of all sizes and the Durango delivers Dodge performance as the Charger of the three-row SUV segment. And new for 2021, we have raised the bar even higher. The 710-horsepower Hellcat is the most powerful SUV ever. It’s the last piece of the puzzle, and alongside the Charger and Challenger, completes the Dodge brand’s performance lineup,” said Tim Kuniskis, Global Head of Alfa Romeo and Head of Passenger Cars — Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA — North America.
According to Dodge, the Durango SRT Hellcat will be an exclusive 2021 model year product, with an estimated production total not likely to exceed 2000 units, making this model a “halo model.” Besides the addition of the SRT Hellcat engine, the 2021 Durango lineup igenerally includes a new aggressive exterior, while the interior is Challenger-inspired with a driver-centric cockpit, a largest-in-class 10.1-inch touchscreen display, the latest Uconnect 5 infotainment system, and will be offered in a total of six different trims — SXT, GT, Citadel, R/T, SRT 392, and SRT Hellcat.
The Durango continues to dominate its competition as no other SUV in the world can tow more or haul more all while beating the Durango SRT Hellcat’s quarter-mile time. Best-in-class towing capability belongs to the Durango R/T, Durango SRT 392, and Durango SRt Hellcat trims, maxing out at 8,700 pounds and continuing the model’s duty to out-haul every other full-size, three-row SUV on the market. Dealer orders for the 2021 Durango open at the end of the summer (2020), while Dodge plans to open the order books for the Durango SRT Hellcat sometime in the fall. All Durango trims with the exception of the Hellcat trim are scheduled to arrive in dealerships this fall (2020) — the Durango SRT Hellcat is slated to arrive in early 2021.
Dodge announced it’ll cease production of its Journey and Grand Caravan models this year (2020), making room for the brand to explore more untapped horsepower and expanding its lineup once again. As for the Hellcat nomenclature, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has sold more than 40,000 Hellcat vehicles since it debuted the nameplate during the 2015 model year. “Our vision was very clear. Our goal was to deliver a Dodge: Big, bold and aggressive. A three-row, supercharged HEMI muscle car,” added Kuniskis when unveiling the new SUV.
