“Last Call” for Dodge Challengers and Chargers: Sales are Booming

Dodge is finally letting enthusiasts know how they can order one of their “Last Call” trims of the 2023 Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger. Dodge has opened the orders for what are expected to be collector’s vehicles. The 2023 Challengers and Chargers will be the final gas-powered muscle cars constructed at the Brampton, Ontario, plant in Canada. The plant will close for retooling at the end of the 2023 production run. Dodge plans to build an electric muscle car for the 2024 model year. As a matter of fact, a concept of the electric vehicle dubbed the Charger Daytona SRT was revealed in August of 2022. Not surprisingly, industry publication Automotive News claims, “The Charger has had sales gains for the past four quarters, while the Challenger just posted its third consecutive positive quarter.”
How to Order “Special Edition” Vehicles
Buyers cannot order the “special edition” trims specifically from Dodge. Instead, they must rely on the brand’s Horsepower Locator tool. The locator site is available on DodgeGarage.com. It will help potential customers locate which dealers have the different “Last Call” trims, so the buyer can order the exact vehicle they want. Of note, the Dodge Horsepower Locator tracks dealership allocations, not dealership inventory, thus permitting enthusiasts to view all 2023 Charger and Challenger trims still available for ordering by each dealer.
“Last Call” Special Editions
After blowing up engines trying to ratchet up the horsepower for the Challenger SRT Demon 170, the other special editions mirror the horsepower found in the throwback trims. The automaker has built each of them in limited numbers. They include the following:
- Challenger Shakedown
- Charger Super Bee
- Challenger and Charger Scat Pack Swinger
- Charger King Daytona
- Challenger Black Ghost
- Challenger SRT Demon 170
The manufacturer has decided to allocate the automobiles to its dealers rather than take buyers’ reservations. Indeed, Dodge attempts to make the process as fair as possible and avoid potential bidding wars. In fact, the brand is so adamant about guaranteeing that dreamers will not get priced out of the market by collectors that it has put an ingenious strategy into play – buyers who pay sticker price go to the front of the line. As Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis announced, “If you paid over sticker, you’re going to get pushed to the end of the line, and we may not build that car.”
The Methodology Behind Selecting Dealerships
The company breaks it down this way: Dodge special edition “Last Call” trims are awarded to the 500 top volume dealerships in Charger and Challenger sales. The top 200 dealers receive 12 special edition trims, dealers #201 to 300 in sales are granted ten special edition trims, and dealers in the #301 to 500 range receive six special edition trims. Each special edition 2023 Dodge “Last Call” trim arrives pre-configured. Orders for special edition “Last Call” automobiles must be placed by contacting dealers with inventory of the desired special edition vehicle. For Dodge Charger and Challenger cars that are on a dealership lot or in transit to a dealer, consumers will still be able to see these through the Search New Inventory option on Dodge.com.
According to Dodge, the Horsepower Locator has been updated daily Monday through Friday, during the first few months of vehicle ordering, providing customers nearly real-time access to the most current list of vehicles still available for ordering at dealerships. As 2023 vehicle orders are processed by dealers, the corresponding drop in available vehicle allocation is updated on the Horsepower Locator. Thus, enthusiasts can track exactly how many of each trim remain available for ordering.
