The Ram truck company is celebrating almost a decade of EcoDiesel production and the company’s benchmark powertrain breakthrough. The independent truck brand is offering enthusiasts the final chance to order their own Ram 1500 EcoDiesel model. Ram will mark the end of an era with the production of the 2023 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel concluding in January for the 2023 model year. The EcoDiesel V-6 engine gave the first introduced vehicle in 2014 and significantly upgraded for the 2020 model year myriad impressive powertrain accomplishments only truly seen in a Ram truck.

2014 Ram 1500

The Ram 1500 for this model year was the first modern half-ton, full-size pickup to offer resilient and efficient diesel technology. The 2014 model year was also when the 3.0-liter V-6 EcoDiesel engine was fully debuted for Ram enthusiasts to enjoy its class-leading fuel economy and range. Not to mention, buyers also enjoyed torque unmatched by any other full-size truck with a V-6 engine. It was this 2014 EcoDiesel Ram that earned a 28-mpg rating from the U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the best highway-cycle test result that has ever been achieved by a half-ton, full-size pickup truck. It even surpassed the EPA highway rating for the top-ranked midsize pickup truck. Thanks to this rating, dealerships were overwhelmed with orders (more than 8,000 were sold within the first 72 hours of availability) for the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine truck.

2020 Ram 1500

The 2020 Ram 1500 offers 480 lb.-ft of torque paired with the most capable, light-duty diesel that garners a towing capability of up to 12,560 pounds. This made it America’s most potent half-ton diesel pickup truck on the market. This new generation of 3.0-liter V-6 EcoDiesel engines was what reinforced the Ram truck’s promise to powertrain leadership and even led the segment in fuel economy. This truck’s 4×2 was able to score 32 mpg on the highway and 29 mpg on the highway for the 4×4 models. Ram will continue to set benchmarks as they always have, and with the 2023 Ram lineup, there’s a lot to look forward to

“Our Ram EcoDiesel V-6 engine has delighted consumers with the highest half-ton diesel torque rating and towing capability while being the first to exceed 1,000 miles of range. As we quickly pivot toward an electrified future, we wanted to celebrate this last EcoDiesel milestone by offering our loyal light-duty diesel enthusiasts a final opportunity to order the truck they love.” said Mike Koval Jr., Ram brand CEO Stellantis

For the 2024 model year, the Ram company will offer a 1500 battery-electric vehicle (BEV) pickup with a complete portfolio of electrified solutions in many of its segments throughout 2025 and all segments by 2030.
