It is almost time for the largest aftermarket parts show in the world, and Mopar plans to charge up the crowd. The Specialty Equipment Market Association Show (SEMA), occurs every year in Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Convention Center. This year, SEMA runs from October 31-November 3, 2023. In the past, SEMA has been a massive spectacle for Mopar, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, and Ram. Mopar typically displays how its products can modify Stellantis vehicles, creating true customs of every size and shape. For example, in previous years, Mopar has presented specialty Ram 1500 pickup trucks, altered for overlanding, as well as modified Jeeps with colossal tires and underbody protection, ready to take on any trail.
The Influence of SEMA and Mopar
To clarify, the SEMA show attracts nearly 200,000 people every year. It has 1.2 million square feet of exhibit space and an additional 1 million square feet of attractions and features on parking lots outside the Convention Center. The Specialty Equipment Market Association trade organization represents the nearly $50 billion automotive aftermarket industry.
As for Mopar, that is the global name for Stellantis genuine parts and authentic accessories. Mopar is a combination of the words MOtor and PARts. In recent years, many of the Mopar customizations featured at SEMA have been so popular that the brands have adopted them as packages that can be ordered straight from the factories. Customarily, Mopar and the automakers provide more hints and sneak peeks about what they will be displaying at SEMA.
Get Ready for a Jolt at SEMA 2023
As it stands, all Mopar is saying is: āA serious charge is coming from Mopar at the 2023 SEMA Show, Oct. 31āNov. 3, in Las Vegas. Stay tuned.ā The cryptic post appeared along with a featured photograph. Mopar offered no further explanation and no indication of what vehicles will be featured.Ā
However, an enlarged version of the enigmatic image exhibits a hood similar to a second-generation Dodge Charger modified with a large section of louvers. Peeking through one of the vents reveals something in the engine bay, giving off the tiniest blue glow. That is the surprise. It seems to be electric, the teaser location under the hood making enthusiasts suspect this is some kind of propulsion unit, perhaps even an electric crate motor.
Other Treats for the SEMA Show
An enticing question remains, though: Could this be the same electrified powertrain destined for the upcoming 800-volt Charger Daytona SRT Banshee? The answer awaits on October 31, 2023. In addition to this exhilarating development, Moparās presentation at the Lower South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center is expected to feature a variety of other concept vehicles. Among them, enthusiasts anticipate the appearance of numerous Jeep concepts promoted at the earlier Easter Jeep Safari, such as the Scrambler 392, the Magneto 3.0, and the 1978 Jeep Cherokee 4xe.Ā
Furthermore, there is a possibility that the momentous twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-six-powered Dodge Challenger Drag Pak, previously unveiled at Roadkill Nights, will be on display as well. That said, as the end of the month approaches, more details are likely to emerge.
