New Jeep Wrangler Rumored to Have 40.4 Departure Angle
Jeep is planning on designing a new Wrangler to rival the Ford Bronco in an effort to stay competitive in the off-road segment. Jeep is working on it behind the scenes, but recent news indicates the secret project hints at a new high-clearance Wrangler consumers have not seen before. The “Hard-Core Wrangler” is what it’s named by Jeep insiders, with the name itself indicating that it is going to be a Wrangler Ford doesn’t want to mess with. Jeep’s current line-up of Wrangler models is more than enough to put Ford in second place when it comes to an off-road vehicle, but Jeep’s intentions are to introduce a Wrangler with a departure angle of 40.4 degrees.
Rumored High-Clearance Jeep Wrangler
Nothing is official just yet, but a recently released teaser image of a Jeep Wrangler with massive tires on social media has Jeep fans talking. Another image shows an arrow pointing to the rear of a Jeep sign indicating that it has 40.4 of “something.” While the details are pretty vague, the arrow most likely refers to the departure angle. The highest departure angle on a Jeep Wrangler to date is 37 degrees and that is on the 2021 Rubicon trim.
The “Hardcore” Wrangler
With a name like “Hardcore” in a Jeep Wrangler, it must indicate that it has something very impressive or extreme in its design. At this point, Jeep fans can only guess what’s in store for this mystery Jeep. A logical starting point for Jeep is to upgrade the suspension and tire size, increasing these two vehicle characteristics increases the ride height and departure angle. If this is the route Jeep plans to take, this “Harcore” Wrangler is going to be one of the first Jeeps to come straight out of the factory with a 40.4 departure angle.
Jeep Customization Facility
There is also recent news from Stellantis that the company is working on a vehicle customization facility near the Toledo assembly plant that manufactures the Gladiator and Wrangler models.
