Ram Trucks Looks to Trounce Chevrolet Sales for the Second Year in a Row
The truck wars continue to intensify as all-new variants of the Ram 1500 rollout, while Chevy and its Silverado, and Ford with its F-150, look on from a distance. Ford has long held the best-seller position, and Chevrolet used to rest comfortably in second place, but all that’s changed since in 2019 Ram took the light-duty segment by storm with its better-than-ever Ram 1500 model. These days, Ram and Chevy appear to be in an intense tug-of-war for second place, but it’s Ram that’s really carving out room for itself. Last year (2019), Ram changed the game and officially dethroned Chevrolet for the second best-selling spot in model history!
Now, during the third quarter of 2020, Ram is poised to keep its number two spot as Chevrolet experienced a 5.4 percent drop in sales when compared to last year. The gap between both truck makers is rather narrow, no doubt affected by the struggle of inventory shortages thanks to the pandemic. It’ll be interesting to see which truck takes the crown come December 31, but we’ve got our money on Ram Trucks.
Since the revamped model debuted in 2019, the redesigned Ram 1500 has been quite the rival for the Silverado. The luxurious interior, coupled with the upgraded tech — including a massive Tesla-inspired (and class-leading) 12-inch infotainment display — has definitely taken the light-duty pickup world by storm. Additionally, Ram also benefits from the various engine options it offers. The hardcore HEMI-powered Ram 1500 trims, not to mention the revamped 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine, give prospective buyers the type of variety that perfectly suits their needs. Can the Ram 1500 maintain its momentum? We’ll find out when automakers tally up their totals at the beginning of next year (2021).
2021 Ram 1500 TRX
Ram set out to design the most powerful off-road pickup, and the truck maker immediately kicked things into high gear thanks to the supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat HEMI V8 engine that powers this beast. Buyers can expect to feel the throttle of 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. However, the TRX is much more than a Hellcat-powered pickup truck — it’s also got massive fender flares that are 8.0-inches wide, along with a 6.0-inch increase of its track width. Frame and suspension components are rigidly reinforced to handle even the most unforgiving desert terrain, so passengers and drivers alike can have confidence when they’re on roads less traveled.
