Ram Trucks Plans a Segment Disruption With the Ram Rebel TRX
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ (FCA) Ram Truck division is setting the stage for the debut and subsequent launch of its Hellcat-powered Ram Rebel TRX model. Ram is poised to compete directly against the Ford F-150 Raptor and we’ve got new details as to how exactly Ram plans to accomplish that. FCA insiders shared some information with Allpar under the condition of anonymity. Ram is determined to make the play for off-road dominance with the high-performance pickup’s adjustable suspension and traction management system, and not to mention the Hellcat engine that’ll be under the hood.
How do we know the Ram Rebel TRX will feature a Hellcat engine under the hood? Well, the folks at The Fast Lane Truck got to peek at the pickup’s VIN plate. Not only does the VIN plate confirm that it’ll be a Hellcat engine under the hood, the plate also details horsepower rating, boost pressure, and the plate even features a special part that reads “Designed by FCA in Auburn Hills, Michigan.” Now that this rumor has been put to rest and we can confirm that the TRX will be Hellcat-powered, it’s not that difficult to see how Ram is ready to roll in and steal Ford’s thunder. Pickup and baja truck enthusiasts alike will be clamoring for an off-road beast with a 6.2-liter HEMI V8. In the meantime, Ford only offers a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 on the Raptor.
Just like the existing Dodge Challenger and Charger models, along with the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk — models which offer HEMI engines, the upcoming Ram Rebel TRX will offer drivers selectable drive modes that are designated to navigate various stages of off-road driving. Unlike the other sister models that offer driving modes for the pavement as well, the Ram Rebel TRX modes will be dedicated to off-road uses only. The selectable drive modes will likely be calibrated to suit off-road driving, like modes for rock crawling and desert running, along with a snow/wet mode for areas that require it. Additional modes are also expected according to industry experts.
Although the final number of modes is unknown for the time being, experts do have an idea as to how those drive modes will function. Allpar reports that each mode is calibrated to perfection, taking into account the suspension tuning, steering weight, throttle calibration, transmission calibration, and stability/traction control. Some of the drive modes will be locked by Ram Trucks, while other modes are designed to be further tuned by the owner.
