The Jeep Grand Cherokee gets even larger with the introduction of the L series that increases its wheelbase length by 7-inches and its overall length by 15-inches that adds enough room for third-row seating. The Grand Cherokee L still falls into the mid-size SUV category but features full-size SUV luxury and feel. In some aspects, the L-series mirrors the dimensions and characteristics of full-luxury SUVs like Land Rover and Cadillac with interior refinement and a great selection of premium materials. Depending on the configuration, the Grand Cherokee L can sit six to seven passengers comfortably.

Performance Figures and Engine Options

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L has two engine options: a 3.6 L V6 engine that produces 290hp and a 5.7 L V8 HEMI that puts out 357hp. The V8 engine enables the Grand Cherokee L to tow up to 7,200 lbs, while the V6 can haul up to 6,200 lbs. However, fuel economy comes at a cost for the L series. V6 models get a combined 21 mpg, and V8 models receive 17mpg of mixed driving.

For an extra $1,095, an Off-Road Package is available on the Overland Trim that adds skid plates and 18-inch all-terrain tires. There are also air springs that come standard that increase ground clearance by 2.5 inches, but it’s also able to drop 2-inches, making getting in and out of the SUV easier. With a variety of driving modes to choose from that include Rock, Sand/Mud, and Snow, drivers experience genuine Jeep off-road capability.

Technology and Media

Stylish and premium-looking wood trim throughout the dash and interior door panels gives the SUV an upscale look. Other technology features include an optional 19-speaker McIntosh Audio System, a standard 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster that runs on the latest Uconnect 5 software. (The base 8.4-inch touchscreen on the lower trims is upgradeable to a 10.1-inch unit). Concerning safety features, the Grand Cherokee L has almost every advanced driver-assist tech on the market, in addition to having a heads-up display and a night-vision camera.
