The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger is one of the world’s longest-ranged electric vehicles, able to run up to 690 miles. The Ramcharger can tow 14,000 pounds, or, with its 663 horsepower, 615 pound-feet powertrain, run a 4.4-second zero to sixty miles per hour. It is entirely electrically powered in terms of motion; its 92-kilowatt-hour battery pack propels electric drive modules, with 250-kilowatts in front and 238-kilowatts in back.

A Pentastar V-6 engine can power a 130-kilowatt on-board generator to lengthen the pickup truck’s range or provide up to 7,200 watts of power via a bed outlet. The best-in-class 14,000 pounds of towing requires a Class 5 hitch and tow package. Additionally, the maximum payload capacity is also best-in-class at 2,625 pounds. It is worth noting that the Ramcharger is not merely one package: It is sold in Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Limited, and Tungsten trims.

The Ramcharger in Motion

The electric drive modules, or EDMs, combine a gearbox, a motor, and an inverter. Of note, the pair of electric drive modules provide all-wheel drive. The front electric drive module of the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger has an automatic wheel-end disconnect that allows the front wheels to spin freely in certain conditions, maximizing efficiency. In turn, the rear electric drive module has an optional electronic locking rear differential, and both electric drive modules are mounted on axles.

When the battery is low, power flows from the Pentastar V-6 engine to the on-board 130-kilowatt generator, which charges the battery or goes directly to a high-voltage bus where it can power the electric drive modules. The motors can, in short, utilize the generator’s and the battery’s electrical power at once, making the truck reminiscent of a serial hybrid. In other words, there is no mechanical path from the engine to the wheels. The Pentastar V-6 gasoline engine was likely selected over the 2.0-liter four-cylinder because it has greater availability and decreases noise and cost.

The pickup has unique packaging to make room for the front drive module. The generator mounts straight to the engine, while a power inverter module is connected to the body. Moreover, the liquid-cooled 92-kilowatt-hour battery pack is under the floor, in the center of the truck, allowing for a flat floor above. Sources indicate that the “Ramcharger employs a trick seen on the BMW i3 and Chevrolet Volt; it is an electric vehicle, complete with the ability to use Level 1 (120-volt) and Level 2 (240-volt) AC chargers, as well as DC fast charging.”

The Amenities

The truck bed of the Ram 1500 Ramcharger is relatively similar to its gasoline-powered counterpart’s. Indeed, the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger has the finest lockable bed storage in the segment with RamBox, along with a 115-volt outlet. RamBox is illuminated, weatherproof, highly versatile, and incorporates drain plugs on the bottom of the storage bins. Inside, the automaker used premium materials and textures, offering a seamless blend of upscale luxury and functionality.

Not to mention, autonomous systems allow Hands-free Highway Assist (L2+) with hands-off driving at all speeds and lane centering on approved roadways. The system predictively slows the vehicle down in tight curves, resumes control after driver override, and verifies that the driver is paying attention. Technology also includes the Uconnect 5 infotainment system through which information can be broadcast on a 14.5-inch touchscreen. There is even a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a digital rearview mirror, and a 10.25-inch passenger screen.
